Food is excellent......... However service is horrible! Took 30 min for a waiter to come to the table. Still here after 2 hours trying to get more water and the check!

The setting was generally pleasant overlooking the water but that was the highlight . The service was poor; slow, little attention to refills and forgotten food items. The scallops were good, the other two plates were below avg; leg of lamb was unremarkable and chicken kabobs way overbooked. There are ample restaurants nearby. I would not recommend or return to this one.

First let me say that we are not Tarpon Springs tourists. We live in the area and Dmitri's is always our go to restaurant when family is visiting, birthday celebrations, special occasions, etc... However I just want to bring the attention to the lack of hospitality we received last night at the establishment. One person in our group ordered the rare ribeye - at $28.00 we were expecting a delightful steak. When it came out it was pretty much medium on the outside and almost mid rare on the inside. We politely asked our waitress to have the kitchen re cook the steak to the correct temperature. She promptly got the owner who came to our table and told us that the steak was, in fact, rare and because of "health codes" his staff couldn't cook it any more rare. He was unapologetic about the mishap and made my guest feel belittled. Plus he said it is an expensive meat and he wouldn't be able to replace it. He ate about 1/4 of the steak reluctantly and the waitress said she would take it off the check. I'm guessing the owner didn't allow her to do so because we had to pay for it (which wouldn't have been so bad if it was cooked according to our order). I explained to him that I work in a world renowned five star resort and we cook steaks rare and extra rare all the time. Customers should be your first concern. Especially loyal customers. Instead of replacing the "too expensive meat" he has lost a family of loyal followers. It truly is a shame. I'm sure this place will continue to thrive because of prime location, but the owner and the staff should reconsider how they deal with customers and complaints. Every. Customer. Counts.

The dolmades were delicious. The prime rib was huge. The Greek lemon roasted potatoes were as good as they sounded. The salad was better than the average dinner salad. The wine was very drinkable. And there was a view of the river, complete with sponge boats. All the staff were extremely friendly and the service was much better than average. I'm not sure what more you could ask for.

Recently I tried the food here and it was horrible. Sitting outside the seagulls were trying to take my food. After eating the grilled chicken that tasted like rubber, I should have given it to the birds.

I had the saganaki. It was delicious and entertaining to watch it be set on fire. (Too bad they wouldn't let me do it... haha) The bartender, Ana, was absolutely delightful. I asked her a ton of questions about Tarpon Springs, the Epiphany celebrations, and other local restaurants, and she happily answered them all for me. High five to her for answering so many questions for me! If you eat there, I suggest sitting at the bar with her instead of getting a table.

Best Greek food in Tarpon Springs! I was recommended this restaurant by a local and I was blown away by how good the food was. My family and I went here for lunch last Friday and we all agreed that this was the best Greek food we have ever had. We started our meal off with a spread sampler. Wow, this appetizer was a meal in itself! The four of us were stuffed before our meals arrived... next time we will stick to one dip. The spread platter included: Hummus, Tzatziki, Taramoslata (fish roe dip), and Skordalia (sauteed garlic and potatos) and warm pita bread for dipping. The hummus was seasoned with generous amounts of garlic and olive oil. My dad doesn't really care for hummus, but loved the hummus and declared it the best hummus he has ever tried. I have never had Skirdalia before, but I absolutely loved it and could not stop spreading generous amounts on pita bread. The menu includes a lengthy list of different Greek dishes. For $8 you can get a "small" greek salad or a gyro. I decided to get chicken on my Greek salad and the "small" salad was enough to feed two people! I have never seen such fresh feta or such perfectly grilled chicken. Everyone else at our table got the gyros. Please note that feta and kalamata olives are an additional cost on the gyros so you have to request them specifically. The gyros are huge and tasty so arrive with an appetite! Will definitely return to Dimitri's next time I visit Tarpon Springs!

Between the brunt meat, the dead fish floating by , diesel fumes from the boats ,and the pathetic service, this goes down as one of the worst meals I've ever had. Don't wast your money.

Spent the day with some friends and family in Tarpon Springs. The friend, who grew up here, made reservations. I was psyched to get some Greek food. Being from Chicago, we have a strong Greek presence in the community and lots of great Greek food. I left Dimitri's feeling homesick. The food was very good. The Greek salad could have been a meal in itself, shared by the table. I had some of the Dolmades appetizer which was fantastic. For dinner, I had the chicken souvlaki which was great. No complaints from anyone in our party. We had 8 in our party with reservations. We arrived 30 minutes early, just being tired from attending the Tarpon Springs Art Fair and walking around the pier. Recommend reservations as it's a smaller place. They sat us 15 minutes before our reservation time and we had a lovely table with a view of the pier. The staff was friendly and attentive. They have a lot across the street that's free with validation from their restaurant. They offer in door, covered patio and outside, pier-side seating. No complaints about the place. Not super duper fancy but appropriate for the atmosphere. I'd go back and recommend it to others. Opa!

Thoroughly enjoyed the grilled octopus and whole broiled fish. Service and atmosphere were both above average. Definitely look forward to trying one of their many lamb dishes next time we are in Tarpon Springs.

We were referred to this place from the boat tour captain-- We went in- host was nice- had to wait- so we decided to go to the bar for a drink- The bar seemed fine to eat so we stayed there to eat and drink- BIG MISTAKE! the bartender was nice but seemed unclear to bar etiquette for her patrons. Took forever to order a drink- then the drinks were mixed badly- we asked for something else but she insisted on re-mixing the drinks that took over 20 minutes! they still were not up to par but we drank them- We placed an order- took forever for that- when it arrived we needed salt and pepper-- she seemed bothered by us for asking for standard condiments that should of been already given. The sandwich was great- Gyro with fries-- we asked for a bit of extra sauce- and that was like asking for the house! she questioned our reason for it- then it took over 15 minutes to get! atmosphere was nice- right on the water- but its management needs improving! Would try one more time to see if it improves otherwise NO!

Not a great experience at the bar! We had plans to go to another restaurant for dinner, but wanted to stop for a drink first. Dimitri's was recommended by a local, so we figured we'd try. They had mojitos on special, which is what I ordered. I know that they are made by hand, but it took about 15 minutes to be served. The mojito was super limey, just too sour! My husband ordered a beer on tap, and it was warm and flat. On the upside, the bartender was really nice. I will try Dimitri's again for the food, as the menu looked great... but will probably stick with wine!

Tourists beware! The place is nice, great atmosphere and bar but the food..... We had a sampler with pita bread. The spreads were so salty that we couldn't eat them. I had the Dimitri's Salad and my husband the Gyro sandwich. Both were tasty but two hours later... BAM! Ruined for the rest of the day.

Our meal today here was amazing. The village salad was fresh and very well prepared. The homemade bread was warm and very flavorful and served with olive oil and herbs and the pork souvlakia was the best I've ever had, even better than what I had in Greece.

We visited this quaint town yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with our lunch choice. We were greeted at the door by a very friendly owner/manager. He engaged with each of us and seated us by the water. A beautiful view of the water ! We each had a fabulous meal. Our 20 yr olds ordered the blackened chicken ceasar wrap which they both loved. I had the pork gyro and it was amazing. My husband enjoyed the traditional Greek gyro and was totally in love with it. They have a full bar and my husband was able to enjoy a Greek beer which he enjoyed. I would definitely return. Service was fantastic and prices were extremely reasonable for the meal you receive.

I've been here a few times, and I cannot believe that I have not reviewed it. This is one of the places that I know on the water in Tarpon Springs, and that is why I like it so much. I have a pattern for loving everything on the water no matter what it is. Dimitri's is one of the bunch of greek restaurants at the Sponge Docks. After all, they are all Greek. I've never had any problems with the service here. I usually get a souvlaki(grilled pork on pita with the tzakiki sauce and saganaki(Flaming cheese). My hubby usually gets gyros, lemon chicken, or greek potatoes. So good here, I've also been to the other greek place across the street, but this one is my fave, again bc it's on the water, and I can sit outside, and have my staycation. Sounds good, now I wish I was there right now.

This restaurant might be great for the wonderful snowbirds, tourists, or the retired, as they do seem to make up most of the clientele. It's not very catering to the locals and the younger patrons. I live about 30 miles away and often fish at Anclote with my kids. If we don't catch anything, we then grab something to eat, usually at Hella's or Rusty Bellies. I was with my youngest daughter this time, we didn't catch any trout as we hoped (although you never know what you will catch at Anclote), and I wanted to try a different place. I asked a gentleman who works with the dolphin tours to reccommend a place and he suggested Dimitri's. I was wearing light sweats and a tank top and my daughter was wearing shorts and a shirt with short sleeves. She was wearing sandals and I was wearing sneakers sans socks. This is normal average apparel for those who come back from fishing, and matched what other patrons were wearing, give or take. After being seated by a female at the front of the house, a male manager (possibly the chef) about my age told me I had to wear a full shirt or we would be thrown out and he didn't want to embarrass me in front of my daughter. (Please remember, we had already been seated.) He had his hand on my shoulder and suggested I wear my daughter's shirt as I have a larger chest than my daughter. (We both had our dry swim clothing over our shirts and pants.) Nice manners. I ordered the leg of lamb and rice without tomato sauce. I love Greek food, but it's a personal preference to not have tomato sauce. Both were doused in it. My daughter's octopus was drowned in olive oil and was mushy from being boiled too much. The grill couldn't save it. Our waiter insisted we order certain things such as the Saganaki that we simply weren't interested in. I will never again return. The service was aggressive to put it mildly. If you're in your 30's or younger, especially with kids, I suggest you go somewhere else.

I went here with a group of friends lately and it was a nice time. I had the keftedes (meatballs) with potato salad and rosemary chickpeas. The chickpeas were out of this world!! I sampled some of my friend's gyro, also very good. The view is very pleasant as well. I hope to go back again soon

First I must say; this was our first visit and I was impressed with the old world look and feel of the place. Very clean, we were greeted as soon as we walked in and were escorted to a great table by a window overlooking the river. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass " at Market price". It was undercooked and very fishy tasting. Our waiter, Yani offered to replace it with another order; I reordered the lightly battered fried Shrimp with home made Fries. Great choice! I only have fish at home and never should have ordered fish out. All of our meals were great! The service was the best. We will be eating here often.

The theory here is to starve you with poor service so by the time the food arrives it tastes fine. Honestly, one of the worst dining experiences I have had in my life. I almost felt jealous of the seagulls nearby. Unfortunately, this quaint restaurant is certainly not what I expected. It took four servers and a manager to finally get silverware--but that was just the first 45 minutes. After finally receiving an appetizer ordered with silverware, it took another 30 for a refill of water and for our original server to take our meal order. In total, we waited over an hour and a half before the food arrived. When the food arrived, side items were missing for two of the four meals (50%), and one meal had not been finished being prepared. Hopefully Dimitri's learns to serve and prepare food before others try this place, because we are never coming back.

This is a good spot to enjoy a nice lunch or dinner next to the sponge docks. The Greek salad (with gyro meat) was one of the best I've had. We tried an appetizer platter of spreads with hot pitas. There was hummus, a whipped feta/ricotta dip, tziziki and an eggplant spread.) The eggplant was the winner, way better than babganoush and had great flavor. The grilled pitas were ok but not the best ever. I would say the food at Acropolis (locations in Tampa & St Pete) is as good or maybe better than here but if what you're lookign for is the authentic Tarpon Springs atmosphere, I would recommend it. Very reasonable prices too, gyros and sandwiches were $8 -- a great price for eating out on the water! Deck seating is limited, there are maybe 8 tables outside. Not the prettiest atmosphere and kind of looks run down from the exterior and interior, but that's sort of the "charm" of Tarpon Springs from what I gather.

Yikes! Seriously the worst place I've eaten in awhile. Asked for snapper fillet and they brought out the entire fish, 3 times, and after the 3rd try, ultimately served shredded fish. Tons of bones and cartilage still in the shreds. Once we were seated, The wait for food was also unbearably long, at least an hour. Of all the great restaurants available, there's no need to visit this one. I would give it no stars, but had to choose 1 for purposes of this review.

Typical nice Florida setting on the water (Ancolete River). Nice tourist town (Tarpon Springs). but... giant portions of not so good food. Atmosphere 85 (Pleasing setting) Service 85 (Very caring waitress) Food 70 (If you like Publix steak you will like it) Value 75 (Setting and service upgrade the value) Sorry to say I have never had a real good meal in Tarpon Springs. So why should this restaurant be any different.

Do not eat here. Horrible service, terrible food. Waited hours for our food, which came out cold. In addition the mussels made us sick. Asked to speak to the manager and he absolutely was rude. Spent the last night of our vacation here and it was the worst establishment I have ever been to.

No no no. If that is Stifado I'm a monkey's uncle. I ordered the octopus stifado and it was an embarrassment to Greek cuisine. There was Marinara sauce, olives and pepperocini peppers in it, none of which are in the original recipe. Canned Marinanra sauce that tasted tinny and had no business being in a Greek dish to begin with. As a Greek American I'm embarrassed that this tripe is being passed off as Greek food to people that don't know any better. Honor your culture and stop treating your customers like idiots. Don't get me started on the "Greek" salad. The only place that iceberg lettuce has in a Greek home is for wiping the sink.

I've been toying with the idea of giving up octopus ever since my namesake Paul gained notoriety for guessing the winners for all those World Cup games. Even without clairvoyant ability, octopuses are super intelligent . Still, when cooked properly, they are magically delicious. This is the third place in Tarpon Springs that has disappointed me with their octopus, so maybe it is time to give it up. Their charbroiled octopus was so tough that it required a steak knife to cut, and they over doused it in oil and lemon. But the sides of chick peas and tzatziki were super good (the tzatziki, especially, was rich and sumptuous, without being too sour). We also started with the Saganaki, mainly because I didn't want to be the only flaming Greek thing in the restaurant. Service was excellent as well, and you can't beat the view.

Dimitri's on the water is my new favorite restaurant on the sponge docks. We used to frequent Santorinis which was the previous occupant of the building. It wasn't the food or the atmosphere that kept bringing us back to Santorinis. We fell in love with the location because it is water front with a great view and this is hard to come by on the Sponge docks. Well now we have Dimitri's and to borrow an old cliche..... "I love what they've done with the place". The interior has been redone and it looks modern and classy. It no longer has that cheesy-touristy feel with the tired Parthenon and Greek Island references which are found too often in establishments located on the Sponge Docks. I eaten dinner in Dimitri's twice now and each time the place was hoping and had good energy. Overall I find it to be a huge improvement over Santorinis. Dimitri's easily offers my favorite Greek dinning atmosphere on the sponge docks. So what about the food? I am happy to report that it is excellent. I highly recommend starting off with the spread sampler which is awesome if you like warm, fresh pita bread and some dipping options. I especially like their Tzatiki sauce. I am also a dolmades fan and these didn't disappoint. On my first visit I indulged in the seafood and it was excellent however on my latest visit I had to go for the lamb. It wasn't until my time living in Brazil that I acquired a taste for lamb. I traditionally haven't eaten lamb because It isn't something that appears on American menus. Conversly, lamb appears on all Greek menus and I like the way they prepare it. Therefore, I order lamb chops frequently when we visit the sponge docks. On this outing, I ordered Paithakia which is a generous portion of center cut porterhouse lamb chops. I asked for them to be cooked medium rare and they arrived perfectly cooked. These were juicy chops and absolutely delicious. These were the best lamb chops I have ever been served on the sponge docks. I cannot wait to try them again! Unfortunately I will have to subtract a star due to the restaurant botching our reservation. My sister was in town for the Transitions PGA event and she needed to take some clients out to dinner. I felt confident Dimitri's was the place and we made a reservation for 10 people requesting a near water table. When we arrived they didn't have our reservation. Somehow they got some tables together in the middle of the restaurant and accommodated us. However, we had no view and after the hyping I had done there was definitely an air of disappointment among our party. This was nothing a few drinks couldn't remedy and on that note I wish they had a better beer selection. To avoid ending on a low note I want to reinforce my overall point. Dimitri's is a great restaurant choice. It has a great location, a great view, good atmosphere, and excellent food. If I was going to eat Greek tonight, this would be the place!

My girlfriends and I had a girl's weekend in Tampa. We heard Tarpons Springs Sponge Docks was a great place to visit. We love Greek food and was really looking forward to trying something new. There are several restaurants to choose from. The first restaurant on Dodecanese Bouvelard was too Americanized for us so we decided to walk further down the road. We came to Dimitri's on the Water. We looked at the menu and decided to try it. We got the combination platter plus and extra gyro to share between three people. The combination platter came with four different dishes plus two sides. The gyro platter came with one side. The food was so good. There was plenty of food for three of us to share. We highly recommended Dimitri's. The food is great!

Enjoyed the Skordalia, eggplant and tzatsiki spreads with pita points. Enjoyed the Greek sweet dessert wine. Enjoyed the Skordalia all evening long, because the garlic taste lingered. Enjoyed the bay view from our table in the rear of the restaurant. Waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable.

We've been going here for some time now. Great apps and the Greek salad is big enough for a table of 4. Outdoor seating is great when the boats are coming in and out. Pretty reasonable prices and a kid menu don't forget the flaming cheese.

We went for lunch here after reading the Tampa Bay Times recommendation. Although the service was ok and the view of the water is nice, the food was completely mediocre. Our local fast food Greek gyro joint has a far superior Greek salad and sandwiches. Will not be back.

overpriced, salty, yucky food, TOURIST BEWARE!!! I used my debit card for our meal to include the tip, but, they decided they would tip themselves a bit more that what I signed for! After I asked them to fix it, they assured me they would, however, no such luck! They are crooked and unethical. Go to Hellas or Mr. Souvlaki, better food and honest.

Our lunch @ Dimitri's was a pleasant surprise. We had a nice table by the water. We enjoyed their pickled Octopus, Smelts and their Greek Gyro Salad. The wine we ordered was excellent. Our waitress was very sweet and efficient. If we are ever in Tarpon Springs again Dimitri's would be a place we would go back to.

I take friends on "mystery lunches" and this one is truly enjoyable. For lunch recommend arriving by 11:30 a.m. to get a great seat on the water. By 12:30 p.m. the place is getting busy. Bread is amazingly fresh whole wheat and white, served warm with excellent dipping sauce. Highly recommend splitting any of the combo platters as they are large and come with two sides. Plenty of food for two. Servers are really nice and want to do a good job.

I loved Santorini's. .Now as Dimitri's it is even better. Dimitri prettied the place up. Great place for a date, they are friendly helpful and sometime entertaining. The lamb chops ( I can't say it in Greek ) is to die for. Dimitri's salad is great. My only complaint is the entrance. I think should moved the check in out closer to the front door. We shouldn't have to wait amongst the boxes of produce. Once your seated all is good.

Always on the lookout for a great grouper sandwich, Dimitri's delivered! Greek style (feta & tomato sauce). Yummy! My husband had them make a grouper pita sandwich which he did enjoy. Unfortunately, the service was not good.

My family and I went here and had them cook our fish we caught earlier that day. The fish were prepared Greek style with lemon. They came out pretty decent, nothing to be blown away by. The mezedes were the highlight of the meal. My two favorites were the octopus which was fresh and tender, not rubber-like at all and the saganaki. Honestly this place doesn't seem like a major improvement over Santorini (the place it replaced). The service was excellent. We were greeted, seated right away and had a conscientious server who checked on us throughout the night. Good Greek food to be had. I'll be back again soon.

this is our favorite place to go for a lovely happy hour on Fridays. We sit out on the back deck, order some Greek wine and a couple of appetizers and watch the boats go by. I love my little town of Tarpon Springs. Great service, friendly people and the food...opa!

I was there on Memorial Day , we got the boat tour , rite after the boat droped us , we felt hungary with my family.so we walked in the restaurants location is one of the best (that was the reason we picked the restaurant) but unfortunatly i cannot say the same think for food and the service... Nice welcoming from the people , we sat outside. till now everything good we order calamari , and village salad .. minute 20 , food runner drop our salad , and told us out of calamari , and then the server arrived to the table and change our salad bcz they made the wrong salad ... minute 30 we finnaly got our village salad. The salad was avarage , the tomatoes were not freshed cut , so the taste of it was sour ... the main courses arrived in mimute 65. nothing complicated chichken suvlaki sandwich, gyro sandwich and grouper sandwich... my wife could not eat the gyro sandwich bcz the x garlic killed the taste of tziki in gyro.her side was baked patato with nothing ,(no butter and cream)they got it rite before quite eating.. my mother in law could not eat the souvlaki bcz there was no taste ... and my grouper , the worst i ever get in my life plus the side orza has cinnamon in it. i am pretty good about the greek food and i have never seen cinamon in orzo...also i want to say st about restrooms as well , it was very dirty ,the dirty napkins flooding from the basket... they need to take care off it for sure. overall experiance was terrible. i felt very sorry about the place bcz that beautiful location shoud have been maneged correctly...hopefully the person in charge read this review and correct all the mistakes...

We were visiting the area and stopped in here because they had waterfront tables out back. I ordered the Greek dip sampler which consisted of 4 kinds of dips - Skordalia, Taramosalata, Melitzanosalata, and Tzatzki, served with pita bread. I also ordered the Spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese pie) appetizer and together they made a wonderful lunch. My husband ordered the prime rib steak sandwich with big pieces of prime rib - it was huge! Everything was fresh and home made and fantastic! Our waitress was terrific as well! We will be back!

Very good food. The location on the water is extraordinary!!! Try to come for dinner to see the sunset. Just one comment on their Greek Salad... Not very Greek ( potato?) beside it every dish was delicious and authentic. The broiled fish was amazing

Great food, great atmosphere for families. Yummy sangria and gyros. The service started off horrible - the hostess quickly threw us down at a table for 3 (we were a party of 4) and was gone before we could ask questions. Service was super slow throughout lunch (took forever to order, forgot part of our order), but our waiter was really nice. I little on the spendy side ($5 for each kids OJ?) but worth a stop for a nice little spot right on the water.

I had the grilled octopus and dandelion greens. I had never had either before. The greens were cooked with just the right amount of lemon and olive oil. The octopus was grilled to perfection. It was fantastic. The view was perfect of the water. It was a very relaxing evening. The service could not have been better. I can't wait to come back.

The level of service of Dimitri's is what keeps us coming back. They are right on the main strip in Tarpon Springs, mixed among all the other Greek restaurants in the area. We got a table near the water and that was mistake number one. While Dimitri's does feature a fabulous sunset view, at some point, that sun lands right in your eyes. Not a huge deal. The other issue with sitting outside however is the horrific smell of oil, gasoline and rotting fish. This isn't coming from Dimitri's of course, but from the fishing boats and marina that is nearby. The smell can be VERY overpowering if you are sensitive to it. Still, don't let that deter you from going to Dimitri's for lunch or dinner. It's nice to sit out back and watch the boats go by, catch the sunset and just relax. We ordered the hummus appetizer which was very tasty. I ordered a very large greek salad for my main course which was absolutely fantastic. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the rack of lamb and was very happy with it. I would strongly suggest staying away from here during happy hour unless it is your intention to get your drink on. It gets really, really crowded in here around happy hour and it gets very loud in there. I think Dimitri's is one of those hit or miss places. Some people rave about it while others can take it or leave it. Others still are very disappointed by it. However, we have been there several times and have really never had a bad experience. Good service makes up for a plethora of sins and their service is really always on the money. The few times I have had items on the menu I wasn't particularly crazy about it, they returned it to the kitchen and accommodated us with something else on the menu. Dimitri's is actually my preference over the more popular Hella's in that same area. Both places have very good food and their atmosphere is as different as night and day, but I have found that I can have a more peaceful dinner at Dimitri's than at Hella's which now has their dessert bakery area and can end up like a circus of people pushing through you to get to that area. It's really just a personal preference thing.

What a jewel. Went in for dinner and was not sorry I did. Small and cozy family owned. Wonder staff and the food was awesome. Ordered the gyro sandwich and so did my wife. HUGE with more than plenty of meat. I think two people can share this sandwich Aldo got the Greek oven potatoes so delicious. My daughter got the vegetarian plate which was just excellent. Waitress was very friendly "Jennifer" everything was delivered promptly and she keep dinner moving along. Once finished Jennifer asked if we were getting dessert, but no way we were stuffed. To our surprise chest sent a wonderful and very simple summer dessert on the house granny apples drizzled with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon so delightful. Can not wait to go back.

Wow! I would give this restaurant 10 stars but only could give it 5 stars. We have been away for 15 years and we're looking for good Greek food. We ordered the seafood combination and the gyro platter. Awesome. Great quality and quantity. Service was great and the wine selection great. It's definitely on our list for return and recommendations. Thanks for a great meal!

Dimitri's is located in Tarpon Springs a little green village west of Tampa. The restaurant has "classic" greek fares and seafood. We choose Dimitri's for its "by the sea" location and beautiful outdoor space over looking the water. The menu has classic greek plates such as gyro, spanakopita, chicken souvlaki among many more. Our party of six ordered a greek red wine that was really good, however, our server has zero knowledge of wine pouring and opened the bottle, did not give the cork or gave the head of the table the opportunity to taste it, and just poured FULL glasses of wine to everyone. We ordered for appetizers the calamari which were very greasy, the grilled octopus which was really good and I recommend and the goat cheese flambé which was excellent. For entrees i ordered the chicken souvlaki and my bf the pork souvlaki. Both were average to poor. Dry dry meat, store bought pita and the tZatziki was very very sour. Don't even ordered the rice... Horrible mushy yellow rice. The rest of the table ordered the fried fish of the day and they all complained about the lack of seasoning. We obviously skipped dessert. Two stars for the beautiful scenery.

We came to TS for the day and of course, to eat at Dimitri's. This is a terrific place to eat, with fresh seafood and attentive staff with a nice view of the inlet. Honestly, Dimitri's is the only reason that we come to TS. Hella's has gone downhill with thier product these days. Order anything you want here. It is excellent. The calamari is tender and the hummus is good also. The gyro is also a terrific choice. Enjoy!

As other reviewers have said, the location is awesome--perfect for a romantic sunset dinner. With a couple of exceptions, the food was quite good. Stick to traditional Greek dishes or seafood, though. The prime rib was pre-cooked to medium well and rare wasn't an option. The owner (at least I think it was the owner) offered a ribeye instead, but it arrived well seared on the outside and frozen--yes, with ice crystals and all--in the center. The waitress brought 2 pieces of baklava for our party of 4 to share as an apology for the troubles. After dinner had been paid for, the waitress brought a second check--for the difference between the cost of the prime rib and the ribeye. She apologized for forgetting to correct the first bill and made sure to tell us she would have had to pay for it if she didn't charge the difference.

My first time eating in Tarpon Springs. Everyone suggests Hella's but it was packed. This place was across the street with a water view. I wasn't in the mood for a big dinner so I had a chicken slovaki wrap. Basically a grilled cubed chicken gyro with raw onions and sauce. It was decent. My husband had chicken fingers since he has no sense of adventure but they were the thickest strips I have ever seen and very tasty!

Service was great. Picturesque waterfront dining. George, the owner, gave each patron special attention, and plates were delicious and generous. Highly recommended. The feta and olives plate and Mediterranean seafood pasta were exceptional and plenty to share between two.

It was a crummy rainy evening when I met up with a friend in Tarpon Springs for a drink and dinner at Dimitri's on the Water. Dimitri's is located along Dodecanese Boulevard right next to the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs. Normally this is a great area to park the car and walk up and down the street as you check out the little Greek restaurants, pastry shops, and places to buy t-shirts, sponges, handmade lace and soaps. Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating so we just ducked inside Dimitri's and scored a table next to the water. We were just ahead of the Friday Happy Hour rush, so we were able to relax inside and watch the boats returning to their slips while we enjoyed a nice cold Shock Top. Our waiter was a guy named Scott, and his level of service was just terrific -- answering questions when we needed some help with the menu, but not hovering over our shoulders throughout dinner. We ordered the Hummus appetizer which was a scoop of the garbanzo bean and tahini dip served with toasted pita wedges. Tasty without being overly spicy, and a nice little something to nibble on while we chatted. Next came a Greek salad, and thanks to Scott's recommendation, we ordered a small salad -- which was still enough to feed a 3rd world country! The Greek salad was the usual chopped lettuce, sliced tomatoes, Greek olives, sliced cucumbers, red onions, garbanzo beans, beets, and bell peppers, with pepperoncinis and feta cheese on top, served with a homemade oil & vinegar dressing, and the whole thing sitting atop a scoop of potato salad. YUM!!! Even though Dimitri's has some excellent Greek food on their menu, I skipped over the gyros, souvlaki, moussaka, pastitso, keftedes, and all of their amazing lamb dishes, and instead opted for a piece of grilled and lightly-blackened grouper for my dinner. The fish was light and delicious, and I'm glad that I stayed away from the heavier dishes. As we were finishing our dinner Scott brought over half of a loaf of their delicious Greek bread and motioned for us to follow him out onto the covered, outdoor deck. He told us that schools of catfish lived underneath the docks, and encouraged us to toss hunks of bread into the water. Sure enough the surface of the water just erupted with hungry catfish, and we had a blast standing there feeding the fish (and the gulls who kept swooping in for a free handout). That was great fun and a lot of laughs. After our meal we wandered right next door to Sponge Diver Supply so I could pick up some new t-shirts, and we visited with the ladies working the shop before heading back to Tampa. It was a nice evening in a very casual, yet elegant restaurant right on the Tarpon Springs waterfront.

Great food! Try the lemon chicken soup and lemon potatoes! You won't be disappointed.

My food was good until I got a very fatty piece of chicken that was not edible. My boyfriend and his mothers got French fries that were absolutely disgusting. That being said it's a Greek restaurant so I am sure their expertise isn't in French fries. Good taziki and overalls good atmosphere. I would definitely return.

I had no idea the sponge capital was such a cute little Greek town! We enjoyed a day of shopping and finally thought it was time for a drink and lunch. I am so glad we chose Dimitri's on the water. The outdoor dining was lovely. You can relax in the shade sipping wine on a warm spring day. The staff is attentive and makes the experience even better! The food was fantastic! Started off with the grilled octopus, feta, olives, and bread. We were able to take our time and truly enjoy the day, or maybe the wine... Ok both forsure!! Then we ordered the Gyros. Oh my yumminess! They are huge and $8! When I crave a Gyro I will forever think of Dimitri's! Great place! Stop in and enjoy!

Visiting old friends from out of town, they picked this spot for the back patio setting on a sunset-get-ready dinner. Our waiter was warm, knowledgeable, and on top of it all. He was cool with our approach to throwing it all down, family style. Portion sizes of main entree and all sides were abundantly large and we ended up with leftovers. Flavors were all just right and is definitely worth a return visit.

Four star food! When slammed and on a list for lunch rush on a Saturday the service is three star especially if you sit outside. Flaming sheep cheese appetizer was fabulous so was calamari. Shrimp and scallop pasta was great. Also Demitri salad was the best!!! Definite great stop

No idea why this place is only 3 1/2 stars. Definitely 5 star food and service. Our waiter was excellent and the food was even better. There were 6 of us, and we all raved about it. We had 2 apps- dip platter and fried calamari. Both excellent. Calamari was not chewy at all. My mom loved the lemon chicken soup. We ordered greek salads too. The chicken was perfect and gyros awesome. My dad had the cesar salad and said it was one of the best he's had. I ordered fries with my gyro, but instead rice came out and I'm so glad the rice did. It had a sauce on top of it and the portion was huge. We all left completely stuffed. Do not pass this place up!

I would love to say a few extra dollars and a nicer establishment equals better food, however the Greek food in Tarpon has a hard time standing out between restaurants. I'm sure in a blind taste test we wouldn't be able to tell you who made the Greek Salad or the Pasticcio. Don't go crazy trying to find the "best" just choose one and you will enjoy. I've had several meals at dimitris, none I am unable to forget. They are all okay, not fabulous not bad, like all of Tarpon service is not up to par for other parts of the country. Just remember you are on vacation and this is a tourist town, repeat business isn't important. The view is nice here, you can dine on the water and the decor brings it up a notch. I wish I could give a glowing review to somewhere else but after five years of trying every Greek place on the docks, they are all fairly equal.

I feel like I should be giving Dimitri's On The Water less stars for a stop-you-in-your-tracks surprise appearance by an unsavory critter, but since it strolled along as I was leaving rather than as I was walking in we can casually pretend the incident never happened for the sake of Dimitri's tasty food. I was feeling a bit overdressed on our walk to Dimitri's as the sparse amount of tourists/residents were wearing clothing one should only consider if they were going to a water park. However, as I stepped inside Dimitri's the decor greatly contrasted the world left behind on the sponge ridden streets. Bread was placed upon our table along with an olive oil dip from the Greek God's themselves -a dip I considered pouring into my purse for the long drive home. My friend and I began our adventure with the spread sampler and spinach pie. He dove head first into the spread platter l piling as much of the skordalia (garlic potato), taramosalata (fish roe), tzatzki (really?), and melitzanosalata (eggplant) as he could on a piece of pita and I thought "as if there aren't enough pieces." In time, the pieces of pita disappeared before our very eyes and I began dipping the long forgotten bread who sat patiently in the basket waiting to be noticed again. I, being an epic fan of the company I was keeping, could not stop talking and unfortunately could not truly remember the flavor of the entree's which left me worried. Were the flavors unmemorable? Was the meal itself just okay? Lucky for us, and for me being alongside a sweets addict, we couldn't consume most of our Octopus Stifado and Keftesdes and their accompanying lemon potatoes so I was able to revisit the flavors of Dimitri's the following day. Being alone with the food reawakened my tastebuds as I used my mouth for less talking and more eating. The octopus was cooked to perfection not chewy, not too soft, just right. I would recommend a spoon because it is 100% easier to eat that way as it allows you to get all the wonderful flavors of the dish in one bite. The Keftesdes was a simple surprise. There is truly only so much one can do when offering a meatball dish and I liked that the seasoning was basic and went well with the composition of the meat. If you want to spice things up feel free to spritz the dish with its accompanying lemon slice. All in all Dimitri's is a lovely restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. I would consider going back to try other entrees if the critter issue is not really an issue, but rather an isolated incident. We shall see on my second visit what the actual situation ends up being.

As usual this is excellent authentic Greek food. This is our second time here and we weren't disappointed. While it's not Greece it's as close as we get in western Florida.

Well it smelled great, looked nice, and the food sounded good, but we weren't seated by anyone and nobody took our order after they gave us our drinks and waited for 15 mins. I'm sure it was a misunderstanding, but that's poor management and communication!

The location is what this place has got going for them, in addition to the over-the-top friendly employees and servers. We stopped in after a day on the boat and passing by on our way to the marina. Located on the strip of sponge docks, you can choose to sit inside or sit outside (be forewarned...the view is breathtaking, the smell makes you want to hold your breath). We opted to sit outside as we felt slightly underdressed. Our server was attentive and brought drink refills regularly, and he was very knowledgeable about the menu. He also loaded us up on the delicious bread and oil. Yum. I ordered the Greek salad and it was pretty delicious. I can't say it's the most amazing thing I've ever had because I feel like that is easily replicated. They do have another salad that others at my table ordered and were very pleased with. However, don't go with the "market price" shrimp you can add to your salad. This equated to 3 shrimp and a $6 upcharge. Yeah...$2 per shrimp. Pffft. If you like crispy fries...forget it. These are the ones designed to be soggy, much to the dismay of a picky eater in our group. They also don't have much flavor. Stick to the bread! They have a parking lot across the street that seemed to have plenty of room, and you can park there for free. Or you can get swindled by the Sponge-o-rama guys who charge you $3 to park in their ultra convenient lot and make you think there aren't any spots across the street in the free lot.

My friend took me here for lunch for my first trip to Tarpon Springs. The first thing I noticed was the great view. You could see the water, older ships that were docked across the water, and boats passing by. You can be seated inside or outside, we opted for inside because the water level looked pretty high. We watched to get martinis but they didn't have a drink menu. It's hard for me to make a decision sometimes without being given a few options. They did have a drink of the day, so I went with that. It was a basic Cosmo and it was alright. It didn't taste like it had much alcohol but it was lunch time so that wasn't a bad thing. The super friendly waitress brought us bread and oil while we decided on food and it was sooooo good. Warm soft bread and a nice, flavorful (although somewhat salty) oil to dip in. We ordered an appetizer and sandwich to share and they didn't give us a hard time. The appetizer was a jalapeño cheese dip and it was so good! Spicy, creamy, and not too thick. It came with warm pita bread that went perfectly. We shared the chicken souvlaki sandwich and it was amazing. Tasted exactly the way I would expect a Greek restaurant to serve it. The lunch menu was a decent price and the portions were good. The service was friendly and quick. It wasn't too loud inside and it has a great view. I just wish they had a drink menu. Definitely would return.

We were seated at a table near the water which was nice, but that is where the niceties ended. The Bloody Mary's (listed as "special" per chalkboard in the front of the restaurant) were the worst they had ever had. In fact, it tasted like "dirty sink water mixed with Tabasco". The sangria (also "special" per chalk board) tasted like bubblegum. I have had many sangrias from many locations and never one that tasted like bubblegum. In fact, it tasted verbatim like children's ACT bubblegum mouthwash, verbatim. The appetizer was so-so and nothing special although overpriced. When the meals came out, the girl that brought a salad with shrimp dropped half the shrimp (2 of the four) onto the ground, and did not offer to remedy the situation. The meals were fine and nothing to write home about, again over priced. Our waitress was literally noting the building (or near outside seating) for half an hour after we were finished eating. The dining experience went from bad to worse, as I finally got up and requested boxes. We sat with boxed food and piled up dishes for another 10+ minutes before our waitress finally appeared and I told her about the shrimp falling on the floor situation (she hadn't been around since before the food came). She left and another 10+ minutes later came back and said the manager would only take $4 off the bill for the shrimp as half the shrimp falling on the floor and half being eaten meant they had to charge for something (the upcharge for shrimp was $6). Clearly this establishment is not customer friendly. We will definitely not be back to this restaurant.

Still on our quest to find water front dining in Florida a friend told us about this Greek area in Tarpon Springs. After a little drive we parked in what looked like the main parking lot for the area and paid $3. We where immediately approached by a few people saying if we eat in their restaurant they would pay our parking cost. Dimitri's was one of the places on the list and it looked to have a nice view from it's water front dining area, decision made. The people where friendly and the restaurant was nice the outdoor area was long and narrow and looked right over the canal. We watched the boats go by and saw the sights of the canal. It was not the most interesting water view ever but still nice. The food was good they brought out olive oil and bread to start. I had a grouper sandwich Greek style with tomato and feta on it added flavor with out over powering the fish. My wife had pasta with shellfish she loved the dish it came with clams, mussels, shrimp and scallops, not normally a scallop lover she said these where perfectly cooked sweet and tasty. Nice little place we drove from Tampa area not sure I would go that far again but if I was in the area would stop by.

I was absolutely in LOVE with Dimitri's. My boyfriend and I did't have a lot of time (as we were catching the sea shell cruise next door) but we stopped in for some wine and an appetizer. Our waiter was phenomenal and was very quick with getting our order in. I'm not a big fan of Greek food, but I ordered the crab cakes- and they were delicious. Plus, I loved eating by the water. We had perfect temperature that day, good service, and delicious food.

Generally,on Tuesday, the husband and I go into town and eat Greek. Tonight was no different, but we changed our usual location. We went across the street and dined at Dimitri's on the Water. It's owned by the same family, but it's quite different. Where the original place is very FAMILY, Dimitri's tries for upscale. I say tries, because when you first walk in, you notice a lot of clutter, a lot of disorganized things that really don't belong in an upscale dining establishment. There are boxes of fruit & veg, there were folding chairs. Basically it looked as if the foyer was being used as storage. The dining room, though, was a different story. The ambiance was lovely. With great big windows that looked out over the water and the sponging boats on the canal. Strings of lights, swathed in panels of pale fabric casting an almost romantic ambient light across the tables, each with their own salt rock candle holder. It really was quite lovely. We were seated with a view of the canal, where darkness had descended, but we could see the boats that bobbed on the surface creating an idyllic scene. The Service was delightful, our waiter was a handsome man who was very friendly and efficient, making sure to take our drink orders and getting our starter order quickly. We ordered the zuchinni & eggplant with sauce, it was tasty but heavy. They serve complimentary bread to the table with a dish of olive oil and spices with baslamic vinegar, a wonderful taste on the tongue. When we ordered our mains, I ordered the souvlaki platter (pork) with veggies and a side salad. My husband ordered the Moussaka with soup and veggies. These came out quickly and while my portion was huge - 2 large skewers of meat, tomato, onion, pita and a large serving of Veggies; the Husband's serving of Moussaka wasn't as large as he'd hoped. But the taste was very good. Everything was hot and well cooked. Sadly, both of us were already full - damn diet!, and we ended up taking more than 80% of our meals home. The reason this is a 3 and not a 5 star rating is not only the lobby mess, but the fact that although they don't close until 10, at 9pm, while we were the only diners in the room, they were already doing full closing procedures. Completely undressing tables, pulling up chairs off the porch, taking condiments up. The language the kitchen staff was using was easily heard in the main dining area - most of it with their co-workers- was profane and unprofessional. It does not reflect well on the image of the place. We will come back from time to time, but our home is truly across the street.

What a fantastic Restaurant!!! Highly recommend it! Mr. George makes you feel at home and Ms. Katherina the hostess makes sure that all the food you ordered is brought to the table in a timely manner. The food is out of this world!!! But you need to order the Greek way to have the whole spectrum of a Greek fare. The fun way to do this is to order the appetizer and follow the advise of the hostess since the portions are quite big! Will go back there every time we go to Tarpon Springs!!! Yassu que efharisto!!! Goodbuy and thank you!!!

The service was alright, very slow after we were put in a corner (I'm sure it had something to do with bringing a toddler, even if my toddler was well behaved) ubt the food still stood on it's own, we racked up quite a bill, because when I go greek, I go hard. My 2 year old son even ate (& Liked) the Calamari & the octopus!

We stopped here because they had seating on the water, but this meal quickly turned into an experience. The octopus appetizer we had was very tender, and my meal of the blackened chicken wrap was absolutely incredible- well cooked, well seasoned, reasonably priced, and perfectly proportioned. On top of the great good we had here, the service was top of the line. Our server was friendly and eager to make our meals the best they could be. He even gave us some help on where to find the best oranges in the area while we were in town. The restaurant seems very family oriented, as many of the employees were related. We ate outside on the water and the weather was perfect. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and eat here.

Really 3 or 4 stars on food and 5 on outdoor dining location. I enjoyed dinner this evening, perfect florida weather, not many tourists at 7pm in the town. Parking was easy across the road. Staff welcomed us with smiles and great kitchen smells. We sat outside, starting with average bread and over seasoned oil dip. First up was calamari, perfect, wonderful, light batter, fresh tender calamari. My dining partner then had lamb, portion was huge, the fresh cut french fries, piping hot and delicious. My entre was gyros, good lamb, good quality. The Greek lemon roast pots were a bit disappointing, not roast enough but the flavor was grest. A great moment was at the end of the evening around 830 the left over bread from the kitchen was given to kid diners and the cat fish were fed. Lots of fun. Next time I will bring my kids for the fun. Great staff.

A couple of years ago Laura Reiley, Food Critic for the Tampa Bay Times wrote an article focused on Tarpon Springs restaurants. Dimitri's was on the list of standouts. Not long after, I took a friend there for lunch. I don't remember having strong feelings about it one way or another, which probably explains why I couldn't find the review I wrote from back then. Fast forward to last night. I friend new to the area has never seen the Sponge Docks and so I agree to go there for dinner. I remember that Dmitri's is on the Tampa Bay Times Top 50 List for 2014. Today I'm wondering if Laura Reiley was in a coma when that list was released, because the experience I had would not have allowed Dmitri's on a list of the top 50 in Tarpon Springs, let alone the entire Tampa Bay area. What's the first three or four things you think about when going to a Greek restaurant for dinner? I'm betting many of you will say lamb. I ask our waiter, "How is the Lamb tonight? I'm leaning towards the Leg of Lamb." He responds, "I wouldn't." "The Rack of Lamb?" I ask. "Nope." Struggling with the menu now, my guest orders. "I'll have the Prime Rib, please - medium" she says. "They have been overcooking the prime rib and steaks all night. I recommend that you order it medium-rare." responds the waiter. By the way, he was right. The medium rare prime rib arrives perfectly medium. After fumbling around a bit, I order the Combination Platter. In ten words or less - it sucked. The gyro meat was overcooked and bone dry. If there were cucumbers in that tzatziki sauce, they didn't get to my plate. The moussaka was bland as bland could be. Even the dolmades were flavorless. How does that happen?! The pastitso was bland as well. The fresh seasonal vegetables were steamed beyond recognition. Okay, the lemon potatoes were decent. The portion size was huge. That just made the little bit I ate, and the boxed leftovers I tossed that much more of a sin. Had it not been for the good service and warnings from our waiter, and the accidentally properly cooked prime rib, this rating had to be a ONE star affair.

Im giving 2 stars solely because of the view. The owner was great and was working the floor- credit where credit is due, BUT service was a zero. Dishes came out when they pleased, not together. My wife finished the grouper before any other dish was served (which was decent), the mix seafood came 10 minutes later (octopus was burned). I ordered the same dish and it never came. The waiter dissapeared for 20 minutes while our drinks were empty. Our group left the table because kids were getting wrestless from waiting, so the waiter offered to put the fresh seafood in a box to go...... I declined, and so he discounted the bill the order I hadnt recieved, but still charged me for the side salad. Then took another ten minutes to pay the bill. On top of that, a disgruntled cook left the customer washroom with his apron on.... this place would qualify for a Gordon Ramsey ass kicking Lesson learned - location shouldn't trump quality. Go to Hellas instead

The only thing worse than the food was the service! Took 45 minutes to get our food & the fish was not cooked. I think they feel they can serve tourists anything & get away with it. Go elsewhere; anywhere!

Was in the area site seeing .. popped in to check this restaurant out .. from first glace looked to be very rustic and classy but at 2nd glace very dirty ... my husband and i ordered a greek salad and he ordered the 32 oz steak and bake potato every thing was covered in olive oil taste like olive oil and the salad wasnt good either specialy coming from a greek restaurant ... the salad was covered in the bread dip they serve u when we arrived .. my husbands steak was over cooked and the baked potato was hard and over cooked but still eatable.. all and all the food wasnt as bad as some places ive had but pretty close .. the most disapointing part about the whole meal was wanting to dine on the water .. yea first thought how romantic... next to the water and great view so we thought ... the tables are weathered, worped and moldy. Tables closes to the water are tightly squeezed together so be prepared to have your chair knocked in to each time a guest moves behind you. The patio needs a really good presure washing trash and debree laying around a thick black grime covering the patio makes it kind of slippery, old corks from wine bottles and trash near the ledge where the water meets, the table we sat at was very unlevel almost spilt my drink a few times trying to eat my salad from the table rocking. The chairs are plastic yard furniture chairs not comfortable for heavy guest ... the birds tried stealing food off another guest tables which i guess comes with eating at your own risk out side. the door that leads out to the back patio is covered in black grim where it never gets cleaned from oil and filth from patrons and servers hands. The roof leaks water on to ur table if i had to suggest seating. id Sit in side ... the waiter was very nice but didn't write any orders down which i thought was pretty neat at first untill he placed the couple that was sitting behind us, food in front of me while we waiting for our check ... parking is crazy its free if u dine in and the location they parked us was behind the restaurant across the street with an over flowing dump site of old trash and broken storage crates and cat food poured all over the grown for stray cats in the area.. i hope the cleaning issue isnt the same in the kitchen because if the out side was lacking and the out side dinning area was lacking... scares me to think there might be cleaning issues every where ... we wont go again .. just wasnt what i expected ive shared a few photos as well to this site ...
